Tiong Hiew King was born in Malaysia in 1935. His ancestors were from Mingqing, Fuzhou, China. As a famous Chinese-Malaysian entrepreneur and community leader in the Southeast Asian cultural and academic fields, Mr. Tiong currently serves as Executive Chairman of the Rimbunan Hijau Group, Chairman of Media Chinese International Ltd., and Sin Chew Media Corporation. Meanwhile, he also serves as Director of Sin Chew Daily (Malaysia), Guang Ming Daily (Malaysia) and Ming Pao (Hong Kong). Mr. Tiong is Honorary Chairman of the Federation of Hokkien Association of Malaysia, Director of the World Association of Chinese Newspapers, and Honorary Chairman of the Global Chinese Media Cooperation Union. His company is one of the world’s top 500 enterprises, and he himself is ranked among the top 100 richest men by the Forbes list.

Mr. Tiong was appointed as a Senator of the Malaysia Parliament from 1985 to 1991 in Malaysia and was conferred the title of “Tan Sri” by the King of Malaysia. He was knighted by the Queen of the United Kingdom in recognition of his services to commerce, community, and charitable organizations in June 2009.
