March 6, 2015 (www.ce.cn) - On the afternoon of June 7th, 2014, Chinese President Xi Jinping met U.S. President Barack Obama at Sunnylands, California. The two heads of states defined future Sino-U.S. relations, and pledged to mutually bring forward "a new model of China-U.S. relations", a move that had a great impact on Sino-U.S. relations and international multilateral relations. During the APEC Summit in Beijing in November, 2014, the Chinese and U.S. Presidents went for a walk and reiterated this. To make this bilateral strategic orientation more clear and concrete, the two presidents had an in-depth discussions in several areas and reached a degree of consensus on issues such as climate change and etc, furthering the new model of major-country relationship between China and the United States by a great step.

For many years Asia Pacific Exchange & Cooperation Foundation has always flourished in bilateral relations, it has been designated as cooperation partner by Asia team of US Congress, Democratic Party and Republican Party, high level think tanks. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1979, frequent bilateral political and economical interaction, exchanges of high-level visits every year, the volume of trade and people exchanges are very active, but the relations between China and the United States is often in the fluctuation. The reason is that America is a so called "democracy" country, public will is often amplified, to some extent the America has the probability to be controlled. For running up the votes, the politicians have no choice or option but to do some kind of game. Because American people are longtime indoctrinated by some kind of ideology and affected by media, part of American people can not recognize China correctly, especially they have hesitation and misunderstanding to China's rising, which would easily do harm to Sino-America relations. Hence how to enhance the trust, understanding and friendship of the people between two countries is undoubtedly very important, and this is also the foundation stone for the longtime development of Sino-America friendly relations. To achieve this goal, we need to set our hand to culture, through cultural communication, to reach mutual agreement on history, culture and values of both countries, which may generate unexpected effects. For instance, last year President Xi Jinping watched an NBA game in America, which leaded to very great repercussions. For another instance, the people of both countries learned each other's culture through the Chinese Spring Festival Gala held in the United Nations, New York recently, and identified with each other. In fact, American are also good at using culture, especially movie, to output values and influence. For example, Hollywood blockbusters "Titanic", "Avatar", etc, the influence they generated in China can not be replaced by means of politics and economy.

Based on above-mentioned understanding, APECF led delegations to visit the United States from 2014 to early 2015, and put forward many suggestions and projects related to Sino-American bilateral cultural communication, for instance, establishing "Sino-American Cultural Exchange Investment Fund"; Setting up "Chinese Cultural Center" in Los Angeles and New York; Cooperating with several famous movie production companies, such as work with Universal Studios to make a movie about Chinese history, culture and current situation; supporting some Chinese and American cultural institutions to jointly create some mediagenic topics; strengthening the cooperation of personnel training; supporting some Chinese cultural institutions to merge and reorganize Hollywood cultural companies; introducing some American mature cultural brands and techniques to China to drive the development of China Cultural innovative industry, etc. These assumptions and activities are highly recognized by U.S. Congress, the state government of California, the state government of New York and the municipal government of Los Angeles all expressed their support to us, the California governor's office specially set up an office to promote and coordinate these projects. California Film Commission, California Artists Association, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce have already built cooperation relationship with APECF, American media highly praised these activities. APECF Executive Vice Chairman Xiao Wunan at the invitation visited NBC headquarters in Los Angeles and gave a joint interview of American mainstream media including NBC, FOX and ABC, the interview was broadcast during prime time and received high praise. On March 1, 2015, the newly elected Member of Congress 33rd District, CA, Ted W. Lieu, on his inauguration, approached APECF representative with many suggestions on how to promote cultural communication between China and the US, and highly praised APECF's contribution in this area.
