A delegation led by Mr. Ken Starr, the President of Baylor University,

visited Beijing upon invitation

 

Upon the invitation of Global Partners in Hope (GPiH) and Asia Pacific Exchange & Cooperation Foundation (APECF), Mr. Ken Starr, the President of Baylor University, visited Beijing on June 25th, 2012 with members of the board of the University and experts from the Baylor College of Medicine. During his stay in Beijing, the delegation visited the State Administration for Religious Affairs of China (SARA), China Center for International Economics Exchanges (CCIEE), APECF, Peking University, etc.

In SARA, Mr. Jiang Jianyong, the deputy director, accorded heartful reception to the delegation and had extensive and constructive discussion with the delegation regarding cooperation between China and United States in Christianity. In CCIEE, Mr. Wei Jianguo, the Secretary General, showed great interest in and highly recognized the Sino-U.S. youth exchange program of Baylor University and had frank discussion with the delegation regarding cooperation in economy and culture between China and United States. In Peking University, experts from Baylor University had profound academic discussion with the head of Peking University Health Science Center and reach preliminary agreement on cooperation in health care, cell biology and other fields.

On June 26th, APECF hosted a farewell dinner for the delegation. Mr. Xiao Wunan, the Executive Vice-Chairman of APECF, highly recognized the achievements of the visit of the delegation. Mr. Ken Starr delivered a warm speech and was fully satisfied with the accomplishments of his first visit to China.

Mr. Ken Starr showed great respect and admiration to the Chinese history and culture during his stay in China. The delegation also conveyed their wishes to promote the friendship and communication between the Chinese and American people with their strength in law and medicine, and thus constantly contribute to the cooperation between the two countries and to the world peace.

 

Background Information

Ken Starr was born in 1964 in Vernon, Texas, United States. He currently serves as the President of Baylor University. Mr. Starr is a well-known lawyer, educational administrator and federal judge. During the Clinton administration, he was appointed as Independent Counsel to investigate the Lewinsky case, which brought him fame in the world.

Founded in 1845, Baylor University is the biggest Baptist university in the world. Baylor College of Medicine is one of the best medicine schools in the United Stated. Its medical research program ranks among the best medicine schools according to USNEWS. Moreover, the law school and business school of the Baylor University are also very famous in the world.
