Award Ceremony for “World Peace Ambassador” Held in Mexico City


(From chinareport.com, Correspondent Li Chuanjun) At local time 14:00pm local time on May 17, the award ceremony for “World Peace Ambassador” was held at the Chamber of Deputies in Mexico City. Xiao Wunan, Vice Chairman of the China Association of Social Economic & Cultural Exchange and Executive Vice Chairman of the Asia Pacific Exchange & Cooperation Foundation, was honored with this prestigious distinction.

This award is presented by the World Organization for Peace and is currently one of the most influential peace awards in the world. Many heads of state, renowned social activists, scientists, artists, and sports stars have received this award. Dozens of distinguished guests attended the award ceremony, including members of the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico, representatives of the Speaker, the Secretary General of Government of Mexico City, relevant ministers, and foreign diplomats accredited to Mexico.

Founded in 1991, the World Peace Organization has long been extensively engaged in resolving global disputes, such as mediating between Palestine, Lebanon, and Israel; supporting NATO’s Science for Peace program; addressing armed insurgencies in Côte d'Ivoire; advancing the Korean Peninsula peace process; and promoting interreligious understanding in Argentina and Central and South America. Its involvement in the peace efforts in Colombia yielded significant results, with some participants later awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Current President Juan Samuel Delgado Cedillo has been listed by Leaders magazine as one of the 300 most influential people globally. Active worldwide, the organization plays a pivotal role in promoting peace, resolving conflicts, and combating poverty and inequality, serving as a global model.

Xiao Wunan has consistently dedicated himself to world peace, making substantial contributions to enhancing human mutual understanding and cooperation, eradicating poverty, and advocating for global sustainable development. He has received numerous awards from the United Nations, international organizations, and governments, including:
Aug 2008: Adecoration from the International Olympic Committee for his special contribution to the successful hosting of the Beijing Olympic Games;
Jan 2005: Peace prize of “ Upholding Human Future ” by UNESCO. This prize is globally influential. Many dignitaries have been awarded this prize, such as former South Africa President Nelson Mandela, former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev and Pope John Paul Ⅱ;
Oct 2012: "ICCC Citizen of the World" at UN Headquarters in New York;
Sep 2015: "World Peace Contribution Award" at Expo Milano;
Jul 2016: Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for his outstanding and
invaluable service to the community;
Nov 2016: A decoration from COMESA (Africa’s largest economic and diplomatic organization, equivalent to the Africa Union) for his special contribution to the development of Africa;
Dec 2019: "Peace Exchange Contribution Award" at the 58th Venice Biennale.


World Peace Conference convenes at the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico during the award ceremony

At the award ceremony, participants also launched an initiative to hold a world peace promotion event in Dubai on September 21 (International Day of Peace) this year.
